等待一甲子，传说般的神话之鸟现身顶着黑色羽冠、前端像沾到黑色墨水的橘色嘴喙、一身浅灰白色羽毛，这种在1861年被人类命名以来，就鲜少见到其踪影的燕鸥，究竟只是个神话，还是真实存在世界上？2000年，一次底片调光机的故障，让生态摄影师梁皆得，在马祖意外发现60几年前被认为绝种的黑嘴端凤头燕鸥。自此，对这传说中「神话之鸟」怀有梦想的人们，穿梭在亚洲各国沿海，以及无数个无人小岛之间，有时遭遇大雨风浪，有时冒着跌入大海的危险，只为了能发现它们的踪迹。寻找神话之鸟二十年，它们的数量从八只，到现在约一百只，仰赖迁徙路径上，各国的保育行动。然而，每年夏天台风对繁殖地的侵袭，捡鸟蛋、海洋垃圾、鱼类资源减少等自然与人为破坏，仍然对黑嘴端凤头燕鸥的生存造成庞大威胁。梁皆得跟随各国学者专家，纪录着黑嘴端凤头燕鸥、当地热爱这些鸟类的人们，以及自然环境三者所相互交织的故事。
